Frequently Asked Questions

Does my EHR support AI integration? +

Most web-based EHRs support AI integration through browser extensions like Cheryl. If your EHR runs in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, Cheryl can read your screen and assist with charting and billing. Check our compatibility database above to find your specific EHR. Over 40 of the 50+ EHRs we've reviewed are fully compatible (web-based EHRs). Desktop-only EHRs require their cloud/web version for Cheryl to work.

How does Cheryl work with any EHR? +

Cheryl is a Chrome extension that works as a sidebar next to your EHR. It reads the page content — patient info, chart history, intake forms — and provides AI-powered SOAP notes, billing optimization, and compliance documentation. No API integration needed. No IT department required. If it runs in a browser, Cheryl works with it.

Do I need IT approval to use Cheryl? +

In most cases, no. Cheryl is a Chrome extension that doesn't modify your EHR or require server-side installation. It works alongside your existing system like any other browser extension. For hospital or enterprise environments with managed Chrome policies, you may need IT to whitelist the extension.

What about HIPAA compliance? +

Cheryl is designed with HIPAA compliance in mind. Patient data is processed securely and not stored permanently. We sign Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with healthcare providers. All data transmission is encrypted end-to-end, and we follow strict data handling protocols aligned with healthcare industry standards.

Can Cheryl work with desktop EHR software? +

Cheryl works best with web-based EHRs that run in a browser. For desktop-only software like ECLIPSE, Eaglesoft, or Dentrix, you would need to access them through a web-based remote desktop (like Citrix) or use their cloud/web versions if available. We're exploring native desktop support for future releases.

Which EHR is best for a small clinic in 2026? +

For small clinics wanting AI integration, we recommend web-based EHRs like Jane App (popular in Canada, $54+/mo), SimplePractice (great for therapists, $29+/mo), Cliniko (excellent API, $45+/mo), or Practice Fusion (free tier available). All work seamlessly with Cheryl and are affordable for solo or small practices.
